About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Corpus Christi at 2650 Waldron Rd, Taqueria Almeida #1 stands as a vibrant celebration of authentic Mexican and Latin American flavors, with a special spotlight on breakfast delights that will awaken your senses. This lively eatery invites locals and visitors alike to savor some of the best traditional dishes Texan-Mexican cuisine has to offer, all within a warm, bustling, and welcoming atmosphere.

From the very first bite, Taqueria Almeida #1 promises an unforgettable culinary journey. Food lovers rave about their brisket and steak tacos — especially the famed steak taco “all the way,” which you can customize further by adding an egg for that perfect morning indulgence. The rich, smoky brisket melts effortlessly against the soft, fresh tortillas, complemented expertly by house-made salsas and guacamole that add layers of zest and creaminess. The “Trash Taco” is another standout, a perfect combination of bold, savory ingredients piled high in a way that defies the ordinary taco experience.

Breakfast here is nothing short of spectacular. Imagine the Big Breakfast Burrito, generously stuffed with up to five ingredients of your choice, or the classic Huevos Rancheros, where perfectly cooked eggs mingle with a robust ranchero sauce atop crisp tortillas. The Omelet, brimming with mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, and cheese both inside and out, offers a comforting, flavorful start to the day. You can also explore the satisfying breakfast plates like Chicharron and Egg or the hearty Barbacoa with Two Eggs, each dish crafted with care and vibrant flavors that reflect true Mexican culinary heritage.

For heartier appetites, the menu features hearty soups that are just as soul-satisfying. The Caldo de Res and Caldo de Pollo come in small or large sizes, brimming with savory broth, tender meat, and fresh vegetables — each spoonful is a warm embrace. Alternatively, the traditional Menudo offers a rich, spicy option for those craving something deeply authentic and invigorating.

To wash down these savory dishes, guests can't go wrong with refreshing Agua Frescas like the Limonada, Agua de Horchata, or the remarkably crisp and sweet Watermelon Drink. Their drinks perfectly balance the spices and richness of the food, cleansing your palate and enhancing every bite.

The experience at Taqueria Almeida #1 goes beyond just the food. The atmosphere is casual and lively, with plenty of benches and seating that create a communal, almost festive vibe. It’s a place where both longtime locals and newcomers can enjoy excellent food accompanied by attentive and friendly service. Visitors frequently praise the accommodating staff and note the convenience of available restrooms and ample parking, making it an inviting stop whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a leisurely meal.

Customer reviews paint a vivid picture of why this spot is a treasured local gem. Nancy Salinas describes the brisket and steak tacos as “the bomb,” highlighting not just the incredible flavors but also the refreshing, thirst-quenching Watermelon drinks that perfectly complement the meal. JF recommends the steak taco “all the way” with an egg, emphasizing that while it may be pricier than your typical taco, the quality justifies every penny. Meanwhile, Michael Martin’s story of a lively breakfast recovery with potent black coffee and hearty eggs illustrates the comforting, homey appeal of this taqueria.

In sum, Taqueria Almeida #1 is more than just a restaurant; it’s a vibrant hub of Mexican culinary tradition where every dish tells a story of flavor, culture, and community. Whether you come for the savory tacos, comforting soups, or an energizing breakfast burrito, you’ll leave with a satisfied palate and a warm feeling of having experienced something genuinely special in Corpus Christi.

For an authentic taste of Mexico’s rich culinary tapestry, paired with stellar service and a friendly ambiance, Taqueria Almeida #1 is truly a must-visit destination.

Ask for the steak taco all the way and add an egg. It’s on the pricier side for a taco but you get what you pay for at this place… just look at the pics. Bean, cheese, bacon is another great combo here. Watermelon Agua Fresca was the cherry on top!

Those in the area will know what gem this place is: this review is for the others. . We visited after a brief visit to a local, who recommended their tacos. There was quite a line for the drive through, but luckily we planned to dine-"in". . Parking out front, we entered via the chain link gate. This place clearly gets busy, as there was seating for multitudes and standing for even more. We walked up to the unprepossessing order window and studied what to have. . I decided on the Brisket taco ("Do you want BBQ sauce" , huh? On a taco?) and a Picaddillo taco, plus unsweet tea. We sat at a picnic table, and the cashier brought us our drinks. A very few minutes later, she brought us tacos. . Yeah, they are superb. The tortillas are awesome, and stuffed with almost too much fillings. We also had a few of they salsas in the bag. . The brisket was truly top-notch, not too lean and tossed in BBQ sauce. I was surprised to see pickles too. This was like a brisket sandwich, but using a tortilla. The picaddillo taco was equally perfect, filled plentifully with delicious meat and [potatoes] (maybe? It was fantastic) . There was nothing about the experience that was at all bad. Really excellent meal. . They do have a drive through. When busy, the locals came in to the window and left a few minutes later. . If I lived anywhere close, I'd definitely be a regular.

Well,my friends and I had drank alot too much and were feeling very hungover. So I took control and scooped up donations fo native American orphanages and everyone was focused on consuming some really hot coffee and some great eggs and bacon. The black coffee was very potent but with plenty of sugar etc...it's was both effective and delicious. We all had a great time even the dishwasher must be really well - nouished
